Bond Sequel Not Risico

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

craig-bond-blog.jpg

The Bond sequel will not be based on Fleming’s short story, Risico. Read on:

With James Bond proving to be more popular than he has been in years thanks to Casino Royale, the inevitable sequel to that film is already being hotly anticipated. Now, word has come from two of the writers of the film that contrary to previous reports, the follow-up film will not be based on the Ian Fleming short story Risico.

“That’s not the case,” Robert Wade and Neal Purvis tell The Trades, before adding that the current plan is to start shooting the tightly guarded screenplay (for what is at the moment only known as Bond 22) at the beginning of 2008.

The scripters also say that there’s currently no plan to reintroduce fan favorite characters like gadget-maker Q and ever-faithful secretary Moneypenny, both of whom were dropped for Casino Royale.

“Some people think they should be there, and some people know that they shouldn’t be there,” Wade says. “With the way Casino Royale ends, you know there’s still unfinished business for Bond. He may say, ‘The name’s Bond, James Bond,’ but there’s still a lot of stuff churning up inside him. So, if you’re going to explore that, and we’ve got this great actor to do that with, what you don’t want to do is suddenly clamp it down with all these familiar elements that keep your focus off him. He’s the great asset.”

Since Master Replicas released the very first Force FX Lightsaber in 2002, fans have been clamouring for a Yoda Force FX. Unfortunately, due to the small size of Yoda’s hilt, Master Replicas’ team of product designers and engineers have been unable to fit all of the necessary light and sound technology in place to create a “realistic” Yoda FX that would live up to the standards of its’ predecessors – that is, until now!

Smokin’ Aces

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

smokin_aces_blog_small.jpg

Smokin’ Aces has “heart” and “soul”. Read on:

Writer-director Joe Carnahan’s new flick Smokin’ Aces starts 2007 off with a big, big bang. A high-(blood, guts and) octane action-thriller set in Lake Tahoe of all places, Aces gathers together an eclectic mix of underworld and law enforcement professionals who are all out to get one man: Buddy “Aces” Israel (a never better Jeremy Piven).

Part Sinatra, part David Copperfield and part Elvis, Buddy is a glitzy casino magician and entertainer who got a little too buddy-buddy with the Mafia. Buddy essentially becomes a mobster himself but he has neither the smarts nor the guts it takes to make it. So after he gets pinched and the Feds get him to turn informant against aging don Primo Sparazza, the washed-up wannabe’s former gangland allies are out to get him. But to do that they will have to find a way to penetrate his guarded Tahoe casino penthouse.

But the mob’s not the only set of enemies that Buddy has to worry about. Bailbondsman Rip Reed (Jason Bateman) sends three bounty hunters (Ben Affleck, Peter Berg and Martin Henderson) after him to make sure he doesn’t skip bail.

Worst of all, the $1 million price on Buddy’s head triggers a race between seven bad-ass assassins:Acosta (Nestor Carbonell), the Tremor brothers (Chris Pine, Kevin Durand and Maury Sterling), Lazlo Soot (Tommy Flanagan) and, last but not least, the bootylicious pair of Georgia Sykes (Alicia Keys, in her big-screen dramatic debut) and Sharice Watters (Taraji P. Henson).

Oh, wait, and then there’s the Feds who are also out to make sure Buddy doesn’t flee or die before he can rat out Primo in court. Young turk Messner (Ryan Reynolds) and his mentor Carruthers (Ray Liotta) are partners who (gasp!) actually get along and like each other. Their boss Locke (Andy Garcia), however, is a cold fish who may be the keeper of more secrets than he can handle.
