There are no Justin Timberlake tracks in site on the Alpha Dog soundtrack. Read on:
Nick Cassavetes’ new flick Alpha Dog is about youth gone wild, driven to drugs and emulating violent rap videos presumably out of sheer boredom and too much excess money and free time. Wannabe gangstas from the languid valleys of Los Angeles deal weed, flash steel, and end up kidnapping the younger brother of a customer who fronts on his payments. The accompanying soundtrack reflects these situations, unleashing appropriate rippling and turgid rap theatrics along with ironic classic pop thematics.
In terms of the latter, the album (as well as the film’s opening sequence) kicks off with Eva Cassidy’s rendition of the perennial classic “Over The Rainbow.” The irony is thick since most of the kids portrayed in the film are grasping at straws rather than rainbows, mired in attaining bling and status rather than true happiness. Cassidy’s version is poignant, to be sure, but it still smacks of the music supervisor thinking they were being a mite too clever with this selection.
On the rap side of things Kansas City underground phenom Tech N9ne serves up no less than four tracks (an interesting choice considering his Midwestern roots versus the Southern Cali locale of the film). “Caribou Lou” is a lumbering synth driven number paying tribute to getting your drunk on. “Slither” continues the drugs and booze and sex thematics, this time in a laidback saunter. Meanwhile “La La Land” unfurls with an electronic flamenco vibe rippling with Spanish guitar and femme fatale vocalistics (this track is of special note as it feature Cassavetes’ daughter, Gina, on vocals). “Night and Day” is an ode to balmy nights in SoCal, focusing on booze and pop cultural references.

Those of you, who didn’t get enough of Scorsese’s The Departed don’t despair. There are rumors about a possible sequel. Read on:
Martin Scorsese’s award-winning gangland film The Departed was a remake of the Hong Kong hit Infernal Affairs, which itself spawned a trilogy. Now comes word from none other than Departed co-star Mark Wahlberg that there could be sequels (or prequels) in the making for Scorsese’s all-star flick.
“We may do another one because it’s based on a Hong Kong film [Infernal Affairs], and there is a trilogy. So we may do a sequel with a new cast, and a prequel and bring back the rest of the guys,” Wahlberg informed MTV.com.
The Boston-born actor added, “They’re talking to Robert De Niro and a couple of other people. … Anybody who is anybody wants to work with Marty.”Click on the link below to read the entire article:

The folks over at IGN caught up with James Wan to get the scoop on Saw IV, set to open in theaters Halloween 2007. Read on:
With his latest horror flick, Dead Silence, set to hit theaters on March 23 (click here to watch the trailer), writer/director James Wan is setting his sights back on the franchise that burst him onto the scene nearly three years ago — Saw. Aside from news that a fourth installment is expected to unspool in time for Halloween ’07(as has become a yearly tradition with the series), little else is known about the project. So when IGN Movies recently caught up with the filmmaker, we had to inquire into the film’s status.
“We have someone in mind [to direct],” revealed Wan coyly. “We have someone in mind. And we’re working on the script right now. That’s pretty much where things are at. Saw IV is a tricky one for me to talk about because everyone wants to know about it, but it’s just at such an early stage.”
Fair enough. But with Saw III’s rather “definitive” ending, one can’t help but wonder whether the next film will follow the prequel route.

Although the marketing campaign for Disney’s Prince Caspian has not yet begun, nonetheless, two promotional images are being circulated on the net. Read on:
Disney’s marketing campaign for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian hasn’t begun yet, but two promotional images found their way online this week, suggesting that real posters and other material could be on their way to theatres soon.
One image shows artwork of a majestic castle with the film’s logo superimposed, and comes from Disney’s online annual report for 2006. No, the fortress is not Cair Paravel, the idyllic royal seat we saw in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; that location lies in ruins, consumed by centuries of intrusion by the surrounding forests and the elements in the time period the story takes place. More likely, it’s the capital of wicked King Miraz, the usurper whom Caspian and the Pevensies will seek to overthrow.
