Prince Caspian Previewed

Fan’s of Narnia received a thrill, last week, at Comic Con as new details about Prince Caspian was released. Read on:

Updates on Prince Caspian captivated attendees at last week’s Comic-Con, as fantasy enthusiasts got their first good look at the new film, which is still in production. Producer-director Andrew Adamson addressed fans over a live feed, showing off some terrific-looking armor that the Telmarines will be wearing to battle. The equipment sported by Miraz’s men includes a molded metal mask that is somewhat reminiscent of old Greek masks, although the rest of the armor is quite Medieval-Europe in style.

Costume designer Isis Mussenden was responsible for outfitting the Telmarine army, and for those of you who know how much work the Lord of the Rings crew went to, her feat was hardly less heroic. “There’s two things I’m really proud of this time,” Mussenden told, “and one is the Telmarine army, because I’ve never done an army before. And let me tell you, it’s a task. We manufactured every single thing they wear, from their shoes to the armor. We had four armorists in Prague working the leatherwork. Thousands and thousands actually almost up to a million studs were put onto the brigandines, but it was a real task. We built a 330 strong army and that doesn’t even sound like that much, but I have to tell you that is a lot of pieces, it was over 3000 pieces.”

Speaking of the Medieval look, effects specialists Howard Berger and Dean Wright told ComingSoon that Caspian, taking place many centuries after The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, has a darker, grittier look to it, drawing more on real-life historical design and less on the fantasy idealism of the first movie.

“[Prince Caspian is] dramatically different, actually. It’s much more wild, and I think the whole theme of this film has a much grittier tone to it, and it’s reflected in both the production design, and the character design, and ultimately it will impact all the visual effects.
