U.S.A. Today takes a “first look” at the upcoming Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.
The Strause brothers, video-effects wizards who are making their feature-film debut, concede that sequel-happy Hollywood turned the final installments of the Alien and Predator franchises into pale imitations of the originals.
And even Alien vs. Predator, which raked in $80 million, was born more of a popular video game than artistic inspiration.
So the brothers plan to bring the new film back to its roots — namely, Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, Alien.
“That movie was dark. That movie used a lot of rain,” Colin says. “And that movie was scary. We want it more like the classic early Alien and Predator movies we grew up on.”
