Jon Favreaur= speculates on whom might be the villain in Iron Man 2.

Although he has not yet been signed to direct the sequel, Iron Man director Jon Favreau has been blogging who fans might expect to see menace Shellhead in Iron Man 2.

In a posting at his MySpace blog, Favreau revealed that “The Mandarin is Iron Man’s nemesis and will be incorporated in the sequel. It’s true that I am apprehensive about how he is to be presented. In the tech based modern world that we created for (Iron Man), a Fu Manchu style villain with magical/alien tech rings would seem out of place.”

Favreau added, “There were early drafts of (Iron Man) where the Mandarin was the main villain, so we’ve already explored the character to some extent. I am curious to see how he has been treated in his latest books and how that might influence our direction.”

He also said, “I’ve already mentioned War Machine and Mandarin. I have some ideas, but I really need to sit down with Downey and the Marvel guys before we say much more.” And when asked about the chances of Obadiah Stane returning (SPOILER ALERT) despite his apparent death at the end of the first film, Favreau quipped, “Stane’s death? Do characters ever really die in Marvel? Isn’t it like a soap opera?”

When asked about this report that claimed the Hulk might pop up in Iron Man 2 (just as Tony Stark did in The Incredible Hulk), Favreau replied, “There are no plans to do so.”

The Incredible Hulk gets rave reviews from the folks at IGN. “It delivers and delivers well.” A must see this weekend (June 13).

“Hulk smash!” It’s incredibly (pardon the pun) important to remember that when going in to see the Marvel Studios requel of The Incredible Hulk. Sure, there’s angst — the story’s hero is cursed with a monstrous alter ego that only appears when he gets “excited” (in both good and bad ways). Sure, there’s tension — the story’s hero is constantly on the run from “Big Brother-like” forces looking to capture and exploit his beast within. But ultimately the film, much like the comic book from which it’s based, is about destruction.

Think a smaller scale Cloverfield and you’re in the right ballpark. To further hammer the point home: An introspective tale focusing on father-son issues this is not (sorry, Ang Lee).

To that end, The Incredible Hulk delivers and it delivers well. The film starts off with Dr. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) desperately searching for a cure to the gamma radiation which has poisoned his cells and unleashed a primal force of rage within him known as The Hulk. Living in the shadows and cut off from a life with the woman he loves, Dr. Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), Bruce knows that a military machine led by General “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) is seeking to capture and brutally exploit his power. As all three grapple with the secrets that led to The Hulk’s creation (indeed, they all played a role), they are confronted with a vicious new enemy known as The Abomination — a monstrosity whose destructive strength exceeds even that of The Hulk’s. To defeat this nemesis, the film’s hero must make an agonizing choice: accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or find heroism in the creature he holds inside.

Much has been made about director Louis Leterrier’s decision to focus his film back on themes established in the popular 1970s live-action TV series, and that is clearly the case. In fact, the film’s opening credit sequence revisits The Hulk’s origin story mirroring the starting point established in the show — Bruce falls victim to a gamma experiment gone wrong, an attempt to tap into man’s adrenaline induced super-strength. The director even goes so far as to include cameos from former Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, and former Bruce, Bill Bixby (in a clever and cute way). But how this new approach truly benefits the film is by upping the story’s tension, not only putting its human hero constantly on the run from a determined General Ross but by also increasing the stakes surrounding each “Hulk out.” Bruce quite literally has to restart his life each time he transforms, finding himself in a strange new location (the Hulk will often leap into neighboring states or countries), in need of new clothes, and in need of a new lab to once again begin his search for a cure.

Tim Roth talks about battling the Hulk.

IGN Movies’ week-long coverage of The Incredible Hulk continues today as we speak exclusively to Tim Roth, the actor who plays Emil Blonsky in the new Universal film. Or at least, he’s known as Blonsky for the first half of the picture, before transforming into the beast known as… the Abomination! Roth says he just saw the completed film himself recently, and he couldn’t be happier with the results.

“I think what they did, firstly they went and they gave it what the comic book was and the essence of it,” says Roth, who has appeared in everything from Reservoir Dogs to the Planet of the Apes remake. “They took the real character, the fugitive on the road who is trying to escape from [himself and] trying to contain that, and they made that the core of the story. Then they also went to the graphic novels, they went to that darkness and that adult kind of thing for the look of it. And the points of reference that we had when shooting it was we wanted it to look like Alien, really … have that ‘in the shadows’ thing. I think it’s shot beautifully as well. They’re really, really clever, these guys.”

The actor explains that while the gamma-powered Abomination was new to him, the green-skinned goliath known as the Hulk certainly was not.

“I wasn’t familiar with the Abomination, but certainly was familiar with the Hulk,” he laughs. “Hulk was the comic books that I got as a kid and the TV series, we grew up on that. That was what was on the TV when you came home from school; it was one of those things when you were trying to avoid doing your homework you were watching The Hulk. So I was very familiar with the series and with the story of him, with the nature of him. I understood. And what I like about the Abomination thing is he is really back there in the Hulk world. It was KGB, it was Cold War. And I think that translates perfectly to what we’re going through now, just on a political level, and we’re at war in the world. That’s the sort of mindset of that character. So it seems to fit perfectly, and the whole thing of using human beings as weaponry seems very appropriate now. I think that’s why it’s worth getting it right. I think they did do it, they got it right this time. The character is a product of now as well.”

Roth says that research was an important part of his preparation for the film, which also stars Edward Norton as the title character and Liv Tyler as love interest Betty Ross. The production provided the actors with discs featuring every Hulk comic book ever made, according to Roth, so the user could just “zap around and find” what he or she was looking for in the Jade Giant’s history.

The Hulk director Louis Lettier sits down of a spoiler-filled interview with IGN.

Two years ago, French filmmaker Louis Leterrier was offered the opportunity of a lifetime: Usher popular Marvel Comics character The Incredible Hulk up onto the big screen… again. Of course, this was a blessing and a curse. This one project could literally skyrocket the director’s career into A-list orbit. But the much maligned Ang Lee adaptation was still fresh on moviegoers’ minds; was the helmer of such lower scale action fare as The Transporter 2 and Unleashed the man to reinvigorate the franchise?

Audiences will have to wait until Friday to make up their own minds, but take this reporter’s word for it: Hiring Leterrier was the smartest thing Marvel Studios could have done (check back this week for IGN’s official The Incredible Hulk review). His knowledge of the comic books, love of the 1970s-era live-action TV series and overall enthusiasm for the action movie genre make for a winning combination. And all of these elements are quickly noticeable in even the briefest of conversations with the director.

So imagine IGN’s delight when Leterrier carved out a substantial amount of time from his busy “week of release” schedule to chat about all things Hulk. The banter was fun, his spirits high, and his revelations were… spoilerific! What follows is a no-holds-barred, completely open conversation on the recreation of the Green Goliath’s movie universe and a candid exploration as to where the franchise can go in subsequent sequels. The title for the upcoming Transformers sequel will be Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. If you want to know what this means then read on:

Fans have been wondering what exactly the title Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen means, and now a new report online has uncovered that answer.

According to CHUD, who claims to have verified the following scoop via reliable inside sources, “the Fallen” refers to one of the original 13 Transformers created by Primus.

The site points out this entry on the Fallen, which reminds us that “the robot who would become the Fallen betrayed his creator by siding with Primus’s dark twin, the malevolent planet-eater, Unicron. In the final battle between Primus and Unicron, the Fallen fell victim to the same fate as his master, sucked through a black hole into another dimension. However, while Unicron emerged into another universe, the Fallen was not so fortunate, finding himself trapped in the ‘underspace’ between dimensions.”

Seth Rogen talks his up coming movie Pineapple Express and his other projects.

As promised, IGN Movies has the lowdown from Seth Rogen on several of his upcoming projects, which he talked about in an interview on the set of his upcoming mall-cop comedy Observe and Report (a working title which may change at a later date). The details on that set visit are still under wraps, but we can report on what else is going on for the busy comic actor.

Rogen returns to the big screen this summer in the stoner action-comedy Pineapple Express, opening August 8. In the film, which he co-wrote with partner Evan Goldberg, Rogen plays a pot-smoking process server (Rogen) who goes on the run with his drug-dealing buddy (James Franco) after witnessing a murder. Next up is the Kevin Smith comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which opens in October. He plays Zack, a slacker who seeks to solve his money woes by making a porn film with his friend Miri (Elizabeth Banks).

Looking further ahead, he’s also set to team up again with frequent collaborator Judd Apatow for a new (as-yet-untitled) comedy co-staring Adam Sandler. Sandler and Rogen will both play stand-up comedians. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced, but rumors are circulating that Eric Bana may have a role.

And finally, there’s The Green Hornet, based on the character from 1930s serials and the 1960s television series. Although the project doesn’t have an official green light yet, Rogen and Goldberg have been working on a script which focuses on the relationship between the title hero and his sidekick, Kato (famously portrayed by Bruce Lee in the TV series).
