Mr. Burrough, I am a 1920's & 30's bank robber aficionado. I read your book just after its publication, excellent. Regarding the movie "Public Enemies," I was pleased with the attention to detail and authenticity but I was disappointed with the numerous historical inaccuracies in the movie. The courtroom scene was excellent. But, wasn't the Michigan City prison break and the following Lima, Ohio jailbreak dramatic enough the writers could have just followed the facts? Wasn't the real Purvis more interesting than the stoic character presented to us by Mann? Having "Chock" Floyd die before Dillinger didn't really add anything for the Tucson scene. Didn't Nelson's life come to an end in psychotic enough fashion the writers could have left it alone and had a better script? I disagree with you, the movie could have maintained historical accuracy and not been a "documentary" since the writers had the dialog to play with. The writers should be tarred and feathered for taking great real life drama and turning it into a fantasy sequence.
