The Kraken in Clash of the Titans (1981)
Lawrence Kasdan has signed on to pen the script for the remake of the 1981 epic, The Clash of the Titans. Read on:
Warner Bros. has hired screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan to write the script for their forthcoming fantasy remake of Clash of the Titans.
Kasdan has an eclectic list of credits, but hasn’t penned a genre picture since the 1980s. He is, perhaps, best known to IGN readers as writer of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark. He also penned The Big Chill and The Bodyguard.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kasdan will pen a fresh take on the 1981 cult classic film, known for its groundbreaking special effects by Ray Harryhausen. Screenwriters Travis Beacham, John Gleen & Travis Wright have been previously linked to the project — it’s not known if any of their material will be retained, or if Kasdan will start with a clean slate.

Casting is now under way for a new actor to play the son of Alex O’Connell in the Mummy 3. Read on:
IGN has learned that the character of Alex O’Connell, the son of protagonists Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, will return in The Mummy 3 (a.k.a. Mummy: Curse of the Dragon). Casting is now under way for a new actor to play the role.
Alex was introduced as a precocious 10 year-old wisecracker in 2001′s The Mummy Returns, where he was played by English child actor Freddie Boath.
The script pages being used to audition actors for the role — pages penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar — depict Alex as being in his late teens to early 20s. He is every bit the smartass adventurer his dad is, right down to his penchant for firearms and glib remarks.
The three-page scene being used to audition actors is set in a snowy wilderness and has Rick and Alex comparing their preferred weaponry. The scene’s humor relies on the phallic overtones of their exchange.
Rick brings along his collection of vintage weaponry, including a Tommy gun and long-barreled .45 caliber revolver. Alex prefers the state-of-the art, namely the Walther P-38 and the AK-47, a weapon that he tells his dad has not even come out yet. This would set the story prior to 1947, and after 1938 since it includes the Walther P-38. (The Mummy Returns was set in 1933.)
The roguish Alex has been through nine schools in three years, plays poker and has gotten into trouble before with a headmaster’s daughter. He is resourceful and wily, and is essentially Rick 2.0. Alex also mentions at one point that he digs up relics, so it can be assumed he is an archaeologist or treasure hunter of some sort.

Just in time for Halloween and the release of the 3D version of Disney’s, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Ain’t it cool has just posted this article about a new soundtrack for the film.
Greetings! ScoreKeeper here with something wickedly delectable that is sure to percolate your inner geek. SpoilerOrange sent in this link to a five minute video of Marilyn Manson interviewing Danny Elfman in conjunction with the new release of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS IN 3D. Both volley questions and answers before concluding with Manson engaging Elfman in a droll little game of Mad Libs!
You can observe the ensuing madness here: HERE.
Marilyn Manson, along with several other artists, recorded covers of Elfman’s tunes from the film which will be released on a new 2-disc special edition soundtrack CD later this week. I’m not going to lie. I’m not a fan of Marilyn Manson and when I heard he was doing a cover of “This is Halloween” my eyes rolled in apathy. Upon listening to the song however, I found it to be pretty good. It’s inherently characteristic of the cover artist with the spirit of the original well preserved; criteria I find essential in a good cover song. The same could also be said about Fiona Apple’s rendition of “Sally’s Song,” however, I’ll still take the originals every day of the week.
The set may be worth acquiring for the four original Elfman demos alone: “This is Halloween,” “Making Christmas,” “Oogie Boogie’s Song,” and “Kidnap the Sandy Claws.”

If the rumors are to be believed, Orlando Bloom will not be back to reprise his role as Will Turner, in Pirates 4. Read on:
The rumor mill has been buzzing with gossip that Orlando Bloom might not be in the planned fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
A report that first appeared in a British tabloid, The Daily Star, quoted an alleged Disney insider as claiming Bloom’s character, pirate Will Turner, would be killed off.
The unnamed source suggests the success of the franchise is due to Johnny Depp – who has already expressed interest in reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow beyond the initial trilogy – and Keira Knightley rather than Bloom. They also said that cost-cutting measures have rendered Bloom expendable.

Transformers recently took over the streets of Detroit to film a “massive chase scene”. Read on:
The Transformers have taken over the streets of Detroit! According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, downtown Motown has been commandeered by filmmaker Michael Bay and co. for a shoot that will last through Wednesday evening.
Numerous thoroughfares will be closed to traffic as filming takes place on Fort Street between Washington and Griswold, and Shelby between Congress and Lafayette.
These are the same areas, including the old Michigan Central Depot, that Bay used for The Island.
If you’re in the Motor City and you happen to capture any of the hot Transformers action on camera, hook it up!
The sequences that are currently being filmed are likely parts of “massive chase scenes” that the director hinted at recently on his blog.

Marie Antoinette director, Sophia Coppola will use a wide variety of popular rock music to bring her feature to life. Read on:
For her third feature length film, Marie Antoinette, director Sophia Coppola once again continues to utilize the vast expanse of popular music to accentuate her vivid visual imagination.
Joining her on her quest for the perfect marriage between sight and sound was Music Producer and Music Supervisor Brian Reitzell, who also worked with Coppola on her two previous films, Lost In Translation and The Virgin Suicides.
While writing the script for the film Coppola turned to Reitzell and the two discussed in depth both the tone of the film and the music she was looking for. The result was that Reitzell went for a combination of vintage New Wave (Bow Wow Wow, Adam Ant), Opera, and contemporary music.
“We decided early on that our approach would be a collage of different kinds of music,” says Reitzell. “The soundtrack is a double disc, a post-punk-pre-new-romantic-rock-opera odyssey with some 18th century music and some very new contemporary music.”
The accompanying album is broken into a 2-Disc set featuring classics from the likes of Gang of Four and New Order on one disc and lush score elements on the other disc.
