 Samuel L. Jackson
Samuel L. Jackson has signed a deal with Marvel to play Nick Fury in Iron Man 2, the sequel to last summer’s successful blockbuster Iron Man. Read on:
Samuel L. Jackson has buried the hatchet with Marvel Entertainment, making a deal to play the role of Nick Fury in “Iron Man 2,” and potentially many other films.
Jackson’s deal is a long-term commitment to play Fury, the leader of the espionage unit the Shield. His deal contains an option to play the character in nine future Marvel superhero films, efforts that are expected to include “Captain America,” “Thor,” “The Avengers” and “The Shield” as well as potential sequels.
Jackson introduced Fury in the closing moments of “Iron Man,” when the character asked Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark to join his group. Fury is a natural to show up in multiple Marvel franchises, as he crosses paths with many Marvel superheroes in the comicbooks.
Jackson’s Marvel future looked murky, after he reportedly expressed his displeasure with the producer-financier’s initial offer to reprise his role. Jackson was hardly alone: Even though “Iron Man” grossed more than $600 million worldwide, Marvel brass has been sparing in offers to talent like Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell to play villains in the sequel, sources said.
Jackson and his ICM reps have evidently cleared those dealmaking hurdles, and he will take part in the sequel that director Jon Favreau shoots in the spring, with Paramount Pictures distributing in summer 2010.

Samuel L. Jackson (star of Lakeview Terrace) chats exclusively with IGN.
In director Neil LaBute’s new thriller Lakeview Terrace, opening Friday, Chris and Lisa Mattson (Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) have just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their lifestyle.
A stern, single father, tightly wound veteran L.A.P.D. officer Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson) has appointed himself the watchdog of the neighborhood. Abel’s nightly foot patrols and overly watchful eyes bring comfort to some, but he becomes increasingly harassing to the newlyweds. His persistent intrusions into their lives ultimately turn tragic when the couple decides to fight back.
IGN recently had the chance to sit down one-on-one with Samuel L. Jackson to discuss his role as Abel Turner. Please be advised that THIS ARTICLE INCLUDES SPOILERS:
IGN: Abel is a widower. Were the circumstances of his wife’s death the trigger that set him off? Or was he already a ticking time bomb before she died?
Samuel L. Jackson: I just think that was an event. That was an event that set him off on another kind of path, that kind of changed the dynamic of who he was at home with his kids. Not necessarily on the job but with his kids. I don’t think that if that couple had moved in next door that was the flame that lit the fuse on it. He may have been OK otherwise, and he may have found a way to defuse the situation. But Patrick’s character didn’t choose to do that. He got kind of confrontational.
IGN: Did you and the other filmmakers discuss what sort of relationship Abel had with his wife before she died?
Jackson: Not really. No, that was stuff I had in my head. I didn’t discuss it with Neil; I didn’t discuss it with the writers. Interestingly enough, I think that they were having marital problems just because most cops don’t have long relationships. I’m sure they were having some kind of marital problem. I’m positive. I’m sure that her being in that car with her boss at that particular time in that particular place was something that was not kosher. And because he knows that he has these feelings of inadequacy that his wife was cheating on him and doing whatever. So he’s not dealing with it very well or is not going to deal with it very well so all that stuff plays into that. So when he looks and sees those people in the pool or sees them sharing affection in a particular way, it kind of clicks things in his head. He doesn’t see them. He sees the boss and his wife.

Read the Australian review for Black Snake Moan and then run to the nearest video store and purchase the DVD. Read on:
Apologies for the deliberately transparent and shallow sub-heading, but if you’re between the age of 15 and 18, I bet you clicked. There was also a subtle alternate reason for this intentional, deliberate creative choice – that’s the theme of this review, you see. Black Snake Moan, the latest film from director Craig Brewer – known for his critically lauded helming of Hustle and Flow a couple years back – is a careful and delicate production. Everything is very deliberate.
It is evident that Brewer has been watching and listening to a few related creative sources. First of all, Black Snake Moan is steeped in southern American blues and bluegrass music and culture. Shot in and presumably set in Tennessee, Brewer has composed a homage to the deep-fried south. The setting brings back memories of the rich characters found in Coen Brothers flicks like O Brother Where Art Thou?, and there are some generous nods to Quentin Tarantino and Spike Lee for their influence on his tone and scene composition.
Samuel L. Jackson, ‘Lazarus’, is a washed up blues guitarist-turned-farmer whose life is on the skids. Christina Ricci, ‘Rae’, is a sexy, dirty and broken teenage nymphomaniac who is dating panic attack prone Justin Timberlake, ‘Ronnie’, aiming to head off to war to defend the US of A.
Paths cross as Ronnie hops the military bus and leaves Rae to her own devices. She breaks down and goes on a sex and drugs binge, where she ends up raped and beaten -something we get the impression has happened a little too often in her past. Lazarus comes upon her in a vulnerable and dishevelled state and decides to focus his time and energy on nursing her back to health and saving her from her self-destructive ways in an attempt to repair his own broken heart and distract himself from the bottle.

Samuel L. Jackson in “Black Snake Moan”
Chad Grischow over at IGN reviews the Black Snake Moan soundtrck. Would you pay to hear Samuel L. Jackson read the phone book? Read on
If you have ever thought of paying to hear Samuel L. Jackson read the phone book, this soundtrack is for you. No, it is not as dry as hearing Sam The Man read the Yellow Pages, but it never really achieves the cool factor you expect when you pair Samuel L. Jackson and the blues. To be fair, when you combine the two, it sets expectations to lofty heights nearly impossible to reach.
The soundtrack to Craig Brewer’s (Hustle & Flow) film, about an ex-blues musician’s attempts to reform a sex-addicted woman he finds lying unconscious in the street, drags listeners into a Deep South juke joint with its thick atmosphere and dank tone. As the film’s star, Jackson gets four juicy tracks and an all-star backing band (including Big Jack Johnson and Kenny Brown, R.L. Burnside’s rhythm guitarist), with inconsistent results. Though it may make sense in the realm of the film, Jackson’s take on R.L. Burnside’s “Just Like A Bird Without A Feather” is a plodding sleeper that feels like someone just learning the blues; not the deep cutting track of smoldering vengeance you expect from the star of Pulp Fiction.
Hard-stomping blues “Alice Mae” is a ravenous rocker that has the band nearly drowning out Jackson’s playful vocals, as you can almost hear the grin on his face. Reminiscent of Bruce Willis’ attempt at rock stardom, you want to cheer for Jackson, but his gleeful tone fails to deliver the fire the hazardous lyrics deserve. Thankfully, Jackson is all business on his other two cuts. On his cover of Blind Lemon Jefferson’s “Black Snake Moan” Jackson delivers a deep-baritone monologue against rich blues guitar and rolling storm effects. The growing storm and Jackson’s growling spoken-word vocals gives it an edge missing from the two previously mentioned cuts.
Recorded live, “Stack-O-Lee” is the killer track that delivers exactly what any Samuel L. Jackson fan will expect when picking this up. Jackson settles down and finds his groove with menacing vocals and equally sinister lyrics, “You know that bartender gave me a dirty look and a dirty glass / I said, ‘Hey motherf*cker, do you know who I am?’”. The whooping and hollering crowd when he shouts, “I put nine of my bullets in his motherf*cking chest”, will leave listeners longing for an actual tour from Jackson.
