Japan will get the world premiere for Spider-Man 3. Read on:

The Spider-Man 3 news is coming fast and furious at the moment, first with this weekend’s Venom-specific WonderCon trailer and today with the news from Variety that the sequel will open first in Japan on May 1st. The film will also have its world premiere in Tokyo.

The red carpet event will be held at the Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills in central Tokyo on April 16, with director Sam Raimi, Spidey co-creator Stan Lee, and stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco all in attendance. The May 1st date was only recently decided on for the film’s debut; that’ll put it three days ahead of when American audiences will get to see the continued adventures of Peter Parker on May 4th.

IGN is at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where we just viewed a killer fight sequence from Spider-Man 3 at the Sony booth!

The scene begins with MJ and Peter laying on a web in the park talking — you’ll know about this scene if you’ve paid attention to the trailer and seen previously released production stills. We surmise that she’s just been in a performance that he attended as she says something like, “I wish you could come see me every time.”

We then shift to a scene where Peter is visiting Aunt May and he tells her he’s decided to marry Mary Jane. “That’s so wonderful,” she says, and she gives Peter her engagement ring to offer MJ.

The new Spider-Man 3 trailer debuts on television next Thursday. Read on for more details:

The new trailer for Spider-Man 3 hits theaters later this month attached to prints of the new James Bond flick, Casino Royale. But fans may not have to wait that long to check it out.

The Superhero Hype website has received reader emails indicating that the trailer will make its debut on TV next Thursday between 10-10:30PM during MTV’s The Duel. A Sony spokesperson was not immediately available to conform or deny the reports, but we’ll have more for you here on IGN as soon as we hear it.

There are also rumblings that a second new Spider-Man 3 trailer will debut in February in front of Ghost Rider.

Kirsten Dunst, who plays Mary-Jane in the Spider-man films says that she has just completed principle photography on Spider-man 3. Read on:

Kirsten Dunst, star of the forthcoming sequel Spider-Man 3, told IGN that principal photography on the film has finished, but that she will return to the production in November for additional special effects shots. “We’re done,” Dunst said during a press conference for her new film Marie Antoinette. “I have some more blue-screen things to do. There’s always additional special effects things that are tweaked, but I have a little bit more to do in November.”

Dunst, who plays Mary-Jane Watson in the Spidey films, also noted that the third installment of the series will be very big. “I think it’s going to be a real huge [movie] – just so many characters and villains and everything. It’s a lot. I think I’m going to be surprised when I see the movie.”

Yahoo! News is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. will be “suiting to star in Iron Man“, Marvels next movie based on the super-hero character. Read on:

Robert Downy Jr. is suiting up to star in “Iron Man,” a superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character.

Jon Favreau is directing the Paramount Pictures release. Filming is slated to begin in February in Los Angeles.

Downey will portray Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Using his intelligence and ingenuity, Stark instead builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. Upon his return to the U.S., he uncovers a plot with global implications and must don his armor and protect the world.

The comic debuted in the 1960s, and Iron Man’s origin involved Stark being a prisoner of the Viet Cong. The movie version will be set in today’s geopolitical climate.

Budgeted at more than $100 million, it marks the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, which previously licensed its characters, such as “Spider-Man” and “X-Men,” to other studios.

Marvel president of production Kevin Feige said the filmmakers looked for the best actor to embody the character.
