Twilight Movie Interview: Catherine Hardwicke

Monday, November 17th, 2008

We have a video interview with Catherine Hardwicke the author of Twilight.

Bella Swan has always been a little bit different. Never one to run with the crowd, Bella never cared about fitting in with the trendy, plastic girls at her Phoenix, Arizona, high school. When her mother remarried and sent Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she didn’t expect much of anything to change. But things do change when she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen. He’s nothing like anyone she’s ever met. He’s intelligent and witty, and he seems to see straight into her soul. In no time at all, they are swept up in a passionate and decidely unorthodox romance – unorthodox because Edward really isn’t like the other boys. He can run faster than a mountain lion. He can stop a moving car with his bare hands. Oh, and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. That’s right – VAMPIRE. But he doesn’t have fangs – that’s just in the movies. And he doesn’t drink human blood, though Edward and his family are unique among vampires in that lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for – a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. And what will they do when Laurent and James, the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for Bella?

Twilight Sequels

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Melissa Rosenberg (screenwriter for Twilight) will be back to script the adaptations of the bestsellers, New Moon and Eclipse.

Twilight fans will be happy to learn that the screenwriter of the first film will be back for Summit Entertainment’s two planned sequels.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Melissa Rosenberg is set to script the adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s bestsellers New Moon and Eclipse. Rosenberg is not attached to adapt the fourth book, Breaking Dawn.

Reports that Summit was developing a film version of New Moon surfaced last month.

Meyer’s official site offers the following synopsis for Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series: “As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob—knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?”

Twilight Soundtrack Revealed

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Seven songs from the Twilight soundtrack is floating around on the Interwebs.

Few films of the moment are generating as much buzz across the Interwebs as Twilight. The cinematic recreation of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel is catering to every aspect of the fans, but there’s an extra special focus on those with inclinations toward modern music.

To wit the soundtrack for the film is poised to be the sonic movie-tie-in of the year as it features a wide array of artists from Perry Farrell to Muse, on down to Paramore, and Iron & Wine, just to name a few of those involved; it certainly covers all the bases from indie rock to Old School Alternative (although there are no rap tracks) and even provides music that was written specifically for the film.

Twilight Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Track Listing

1. Supermassive Black Hole (Muse)
2. Decode (Paramore)
3. Full Moon (The Black Ghosts)
4. Leave Out All The Rest (Linkin Park)
5. Spotlight(Twilight Mix) (MuteMath)
6. Go All The Way(Into The Twilight) (Perry Farrell)
7. Tremble For My Beloved (Collective Soul)
8. I Caught Myself (Paramore)
9. Eyes On Fire (Blue Foundation)
10. Never Think (Rob Pattinson)
11. Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Iron & Wine)
12. Bella’s Lullaby (Carter Burwell)

As can be expected bits and pieces of the soundtrack have already emerged on the ether, with YouTube being the primary outlet.

We were able to track down no less than 7 of the album’s 12 tracks. And while we’re not sure if these are indeed official leaks, they certainly sound like they could be (it should be noted that there are other leaks out there, but these seemed to be of the same quality and were posted by the same source).

Twilight Sequel Buzz

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Twilight Final Poster

The release of Twilight is one month away and already there is a buzz about a sequel.

Twilight is still over a month away from release, but there’s reportedly movement already under way on the sequel to the screen adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer bestseller.

According to Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily, “Summit Entertainment’s CEO Rob Friedman is already readying a Twilight sequel.” Finke cites Twilight’s pre-release success — from the pre-orders for its forthcoming soundtrack to the new trailer’s views at MySpace — as all the reason that Summit needs to justify starting development on a sequel before the first film is even released.

As Finke points out, Twilight’s $37 million budget and relatively low P&A costs versus its passionate built-in audience make it an inexpensive blockbuster in the making and a no-brainer franchise starter.

The second book in Meyer’s Twilight series is New Moon. Meyer’s official site has the following synopsis: “For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella could ever have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of one evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may be just beginning…”

Twilight Reshoots Scenes

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Summit Entertainment is bringing back the stars for some additional reshoots on the highly anticipated film adaptation Twilight:

Summit Entertainment is doing additional shooting this week on their highly anticipated film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s bestseller Twilight, months after principal photography wrapped and just three months before the movie’s release.

The cast members who play the Cullen clan — including Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, and Taylor Lautner — confirmed the reshoots to MTV. “They liked it so much, they are bringing us back for some encore time — to beef it up,” said Facinelli, who plays Edward Cullen’s adoptive father Carlisle.

The actor said they will be filming a flashback scene that “gives us a little bit of history of the Cullen family. … They are just shooting a couple of different added scenes, and the scene I’m in, I can tell you it’s me and Robert Pattinson. … Rosalie and Emmett are in that scene.”

Twilight Comes Earlier

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Twilight will open in theaters, November 21 (in place of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince).

Summit Entertainment’s feature film adaptation of the bestseller Twilight will open a month earlier than expected. The Catherine Hardwicke-directed vampire romance will now bow November 21, taking the slot vacated by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Twilight will now open against the Disney CG-animated Bolt, which also moved up from its original November 26 release.

Twilight had been slated for release December 12, but yesterday’s news that Potter has been pushed to summer 2009 opened up a space for another teen-oriented fantasy.

In a statement to Variety, Summit Entertainment co-chairman and CEO Rob Friedman said, “With a giant franchise like Harry Potter in the market, we had to stay clear of it. … Their move created an opportunity to bring the movie to fans three weeks earlier, who have continued to show their enthusiasm, from Comic-Con to the giant Breaking Dawn book sales. We felt we had to take that opportunity.”

The trade says Twilight is expected to open in over 3000 theaters.
