The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a permanent monument to the glorious show business past, such as Charlie Chaplin, and appreciation of present talent, such as Johnny Depp. It recognizes contribution to the arts, and embraces both public and peer appreciation.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Historic Trust are the guardians of this star-studded landmark. Yet, neither organization nominates stars.
