On May 16, 1986 Top Gun opened in 1,028 theaters and was the highest grossing film that year. It became the best-selling videocassette in the home video market, which was still developing at the time. The popularity carried on into DVD market. Bomber jacket and Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses sales increased by 40% due to the use of these items by characters in the film. Air Force and Navy Recruitment also increased as a result of the films influence. The Top Gun soundtrack remains one of the most popular to date. The inspiration for the film was an article written for California magazine called Top Guns which was written by Ehud Yonay. In celebration of Paramount's 100th anniversary, Paramount Pictures and Goldberg Brothers have partnered to create a line of Limited Production Series Top Gun branded home theater products. These products are officially licensed and feature both the Top Gun and Paramount Pictures movie logo.
