Brett Ratner will direct the new Conan the Barbarian film.
Brett Ratner will direct the big screen return of Conan the Barbarian.
IGN has confirmed via a source close to the production that, after months of being rumored for the project, Ratner has indeed been set to helm the long-in-development Conan. The industry trades have also received confirmation.
Ratner will direct Conan from a screenplay by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly. Conan is a co-production between Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate Films.
“The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films,” Millennium’s Avi Lerner told The Hollywood Reporter. “This is a coup for Millennium Films and proves that our choice of projects and material is attracting much higher-profile directors and actors.”
Conan will be budgeted in the $85 million range and is aiming for a “R” rating.
