Universal Pictures may have a new blockbuster fantasy franchise. They’ve just picked up the rights to Robert Jordan’s bestselling fantasy novel series, The Wheel of Time.
The studio bought the movie rights to the late author’s 12-book series for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, reports Variety.
The first movie in the potential franchise, The Eye of the World, could go into active development soon.
Red Eagle Entertainment, publisher of the WoT graphic novels, are producing the films.
The Eye of the World has many different characters and is told from various perspectives, but it is primarily the coming-of-age story of Rand al’Thor, a hero who is the latest incarnation of “The Dragon” — a force for good destined to fight Shai’tan, the Dark One.
